Diese Studie untersucht die Übernahme von Csikszentmihalyis Konzept des Flows in ein Modell zur Online-Informationssuche das auf einem Kosten-Nutzen-Rahmen basiert. Die Einbeziehung der hedonistischen Perspektive stellt eine wesentliche Erweiterung des Modells zur Informationssuche von Verbrauchern dar und kann somit als ergänzende Perspektive zur Informationssucheforschung angesehen werden die bislang vernachlässigt wurde. Die bestehende Forschung zur Informationssuche von Verbrauchern neigt dazu sich auf den Kosten-Nutzen-Rahmen zu konzentrieren und befasst sich hauptsächlich mit praktischen Produkten wie Autos und Computern. Insbesondere in Online-Umgebungen besteht jedoch die Möglichkeit dass Verbraucher die auch hedonischen Wert anstreben die Informationssuche fortsetzen selbst wenn die Kosten höher sind als der Nutzen. Diese Studie konzentriert sich auf diese zusammengesetzte Perspektive und übernimmt das Konzept des Flows als Variable in Mediator- und Moderatorrollen.
